Everywhere you look, you will see people of all ages and sizes, who have only one thing in common: they are committed to enhancing their health. Whether simply trying to increase their heart rates or decrease their weight, train for a 5k or a full 26.2 mile marathon, they are the ones who discipline their minds and bodies to reach goals that will ultimately continue to improve the quality of their lives. For some, this is the first time they have committed to walking around the block, and then they gradually increase the distance to two blocks, a mile, 3 miles, 5 miles, and they shock themselves when they hear the words come out of their own mouths: “I’m training for a ½ marathon.” For others, it has always been a part of their lifestyle to get out and run for the simple reason that they feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally afterward. They can’t imagine not doing it every day.
No time and no energy to exercise
Let’s be honest. These are the top two reasons that people don’t exercise, and they are swamped with a million and one things to do: from executives, to medical professionals, to educators, to stay-at-home moms, and including all the other hard-working people in between.
By the time these on-the-go people finally get some down time, the last thing they think of doing is getting up and moving again.
Are the Benefits of Exercise Worth It?
That is something only you can answer as you look at the list below and determine what areas of your health and life you would like to see improvement in. Exercise can be primarily viewed as a means to lose weight, and that is definitely one benefit. However, as people begin to work it into part of their daily routines, they find that it brings unexpected improvements to both their physical and emotional well-being, including:
- Elevated mood
- Greater energy level
- Stronger immune system
- Improved self-esteem
- Improved sleep
- Improved mind power and ability to focus
There are certainly more benefits that could be added to this list.
Instead of vegging out in front of the television with a bowl of ice cream after a long hard day. Choose to reward yourself - not with food that will merely clog your arteries - but with a new mindset. You may say that you care about your health, but what you actually do is the true indicator of the value level you actually place on health. You may say that health is important to you and that you want to make some changes, but saying those words will not bring about any significant change in your life. You must choose to act differently. This doesn’t mean, of course, that you should start training for a marathon today. But the only way you’ll actually commit to improving your health is by taking a small step today. That step may be to plan a route to walk tomorrow - for 15 minutes - before you plop down in front of the tv. Do it for a few days, and then add something different to your routine.
What Do I Need To Get Started?
Make it fun and enjoyable for you! Trying to be like your neighbor, who wakes up at dawn and runs 5 miles before work and then another 5 miles after work, is only going to take you back to the couch with the bowl of ice cream. Think of ways to make it fun and interesting.
- Walk to the library and pick up a good read.
- Load up your Ipod with an audio book, and listen to it a little bit each day on your daily walk or jog.
- Change your routine every other day - explore new places in your city.
- Go with a friend or neighbor - accountability is key to your level of commitment PLUS having a buddy makes the time go by faster.
- Set a goal for yourself - and then reward yourself with something that isn’t FOOD!
Ah Yes, and One More Thing...
BE SAFE! Enjoy your time out and about, but remember to take safety precautions, such as only keeping one ipod speaker in your ear while running/walking on a busy street. Or keeping the volume low enough so that you can hear when vehicles are near you.
One of the best ways that we encourage safety is through using our LED Safety Light, which is a great promotional item that comes in many different colors. Many people think this flashing safety light is limited to those who bicycle at night or during low visible weather conditions. You would be surprised by the list of various uses for this light that others came up with when they visited our booth at the Las Vegas Show.
Ta-da!
One of the most practical uses for this safety light is for people who exercise - especially at night! “But where will I clip that little light?” you might ask. We just happen to have a few ideas for you! Joggers can clip it to the back of their running belt pack, or even the back of a running hat. Walkers can clip it to their pony tails, or even to the back of their shoes. This is a wonderfully small (but very safe) way to let drivers know that they need to watch out for you!
If health and safety is important to you, consider the possibilities in utilizing this imprinted promotional item for your client's next event. Health and safety go hand-in-hand, no matter what level of exercise one decides to pursue.

Imagine the Possibilities
There are so many different events - marathons, ½ marathons, 5ks, jog-a-thon fundraisers for schools, bike safety events, health and wellness fairs, and even retail stores that specialize in sporting goods - that would benefit from knowing this little safety secret that is dying to get out!
