Choose An Imprinted Promotional Item That's USEFUL!

While we all get a kick out of reading useless information just for a good laugh, we would never choose a useless promotional product!

But...since you could probably use a break in your day, to put a little smile on your face, read below for some interesting (but completely useless) information.

  1. Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
  2. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death.
  3. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
  4. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear any pants.
  5. Most Americans honk in the key of F.
  6. Butterflies taste with their feet.
  7. If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months, and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
  8. You're born with 300 bones; by the time you become an adult, you only have 206.
  9. The average lead pencil will draw a line 35 miles long or write approximately 50,000 words.
  10. Over 75% of people who read this will try to lick their elbow.
(We won't tell anyone if you actually just tried to do #10.)

USEFUL PROMOTIONAL PRODUCTS THAT ALSO PROMOTE SAFETY

While some of these were actually interesting, there were a few that made you ask, "Really?"  Everywhere you go, useless information grabs your attention through television commercials, newspaper ads, city billboards, and google searches.

But remember, there's also a wealth of useful and purposeful information that all of us can utilize to better our lives.  At BikeNSafety Promos, we know that safety is the primary concern of every person alive - whether it's for yourself or someone you care about.

An Innovative Product That Potential Clients MUST See!

Have you seen the article we wrote about the many uses for Bug-Eyez bicycle safety lights?  This list was created from the ideas that you gave us at the PPAI show.  You also were very generous in suggesting potential buyers of both bicycle safety and general safety items.  We knew a few of these, and we will include those on the list below.

You might find this list useful as you may already call on some of the categories.  Or you may be thinking you need a new idea or two for prospecting.  What a better way to go after new business than with an innovative product that potential clients haven't seen before, that was a huge hit at the PPAI show, and that is in a category with so many uses.  For more about Bug-Eyez, please visit http://BikeNSafetyPromos.com.

Have fun with the following list.  Better yet, go make some money:
  1. Police Departments commonly have bike safety programs, rodeos, or work with schools and other organizations to promote bike safety, pedestrian safety, and related safety issues.
  2. Optimist Clubs specifically target bicycle safety as a project and tend to have events during Bike Safety Month in May.  Sometimes Rotary, chambers of commerce, or other service clubs may be taking the lead in your area for these types of events.
  3. If a local organization is not heading it up, sometimes the school is doing the leading on bicycle and pedestrian safety.  Check with PTA or other parent organizations as well as the school administration.
  4. Parks and recreation departments or other city and county departments commonly have safety programs.  Find out from the mayor's office where to start looking.
  5. There is now a national effort under the banner of Share the Road.  Check with your state offices or Google Share the road and your state, county, or city to see if there are programs locally.
  6. Charity fundraising events for cyclists, runners, walkers, physically handicapped, and other groups are always looking for swag.  Bug-Eyez are the perfect item as they will actually get used at the event and after.
  7. Bicycles and breweries.  Bicycles and coffee shops.  Not sure why, but over the years cyclists have become fans of great brewing, whether beer or coffee.  Local businesses offering specialty beer or coffee will likely be very interested in offering Bug-Eyez as a promotional.
  8. Pet stores and vets.  You may have seen our suggestion in the list of ideas for using Bug-Eyez.  One of those was attaching the LED safety light to a dog collar for night walks.
  9. Hospitals - We heard from dozens of distributors at the PPAI show that their hospital clients have multiple events and ongoing projects around safety.  Every one of these folks also believed that Bug-Eyez would be a great item for these hospital based projects.
  10. Closely related to hospitals was nurses.  Many believed that nurses would have personal uses for Bug-Eyez as they commonly are walking at night to their cars.
  11. Kid stores or souvenir locations.  Kids love anything that lights up or blinks.  Parents like to keep their kids safe.
  12. Running or cycling clubs.  Bug-Eyez can fit on handlebars, seat posts, belt loops, backpacks, fanny packs, camelbacks, or shoe laces.
Do you have other potential markets for Bug-Eyez?  Please share.

Health and Safety: A Powerful Duo In Promotional Marketing

Everywhere you look, you will see people of all ages and sizes, who have only one thing in common: they are committed to enhancing their health.  Whether simply trying to increase their heart rates or decrease their weight, train for a 5k or a full 26.2 mile marathon, they are the ones who discipline their minds and bodies to reach goals that will ultimately continue to improve the quality of their lives.  For some, this is the first time they have committed to walking around the block, and then they gradually increase the distance to two blocks, a mile, 3 miles, 5 miles, and they shock themselves when they hear the words come out of their own mouths:  “I’m training for a ½ marathon.”  For others, it has always been a part of their lifestyle to get out and run for the simple reason that they feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally afterward.  They can’t imagine not doing it every day.

No time and no energy to exercise
Let’s be honest.  These are the top two reasons that people don’t exercise, and they are swamped with a million and one things to do: from executives, to medical professionals, to educators, to stay-at-home moms, and including all the other hard-working people in between.
By the time these on-the-go people finally get some down time, the last thing they think of doing is getting up and moving again.

Are the Benefits of Exercise Worth It?
That is something only you can answer as you look at the list below and determine what areas of your health and life you would like to see improvement in.  Exercise can be primarily viewed as a means to lose weight, and that is definitely one benefit.  However, as people begin to work it into part of their daily routines, they find that it brings unexpected improvements to both their physical and emotional well-being, including:
  1. Elevated mood
  2. Greater energy level
  3. Stronger immune system
  4. Improved self-esteem
  5. Improved sleep
  6. Improved mind power and ability to focus
There are certainly more benefits that could be added to this list.

How Do I Make the Time?
Instead of vegging out in front of the television with a bowl of ice cream after a long hard day.  Choose to reward yourself - not with food that will merely clog your arteries - but with a new mindset.  You may say that you care about your health, but what you actually do is the true indicator of the value level you actually place on health.  You may say that health is important to you and that you want to make some changes, but saying those words will not bring about any significant change in your life.  You must choose to act differently.  This doesn’t mean, of course, that you should start training for a marathon today.  But the only way you’ll actually commit to improving your health is by taking a small step today.  That step may be to plan a route to walk tomorrow - for 15 minutes - before you plop down in front of the tv.  Do it for a few days, and then add something different to your routine.

What Do I Need To Get Started?
Make it fun and enjoyable for you! Trying to be like your neighbor, who wakes up at dawn and runs 5 miles before work and then another 5 miles after work, is only going to take you back to the couch with the bowl of ice cream.  Think of ways to make it fun and interesting.
  1. Walk to the library and pick up a good read.
  2. Load up your Ipod with an audio book, and listen to it a little bit each day on your daily walk or jog.
  3. Change your routine every other day - explore new places in your city.
  4. Go with a friend or neighbor - accountability is key to your level of commitment PLUS having a buddy makes the time go by faster.
  5. Set a goal for yourself - and then reward yourself with something that isn’t FOOD!
Ah Yes, and One More Thing...
BE SAFE!  Enjoy your time out and about, but remember to take safety precautions, such as only keeping one ipod speaker in your ear while running/walking on a busy street.  Or keeping the volume low enough so that you can hear when vehicles are near you.
One of the best ways that we encourage safety is through using our LED Safety Light, which is a great promotional item that comes in many different colors.  Many people think this flashing safety light is limited to those who bicycle at night or during low visible weather conditions.  You would be surprised by the list of various uses for this light that others came up with when they visited our booth at the Las Vegas Show.

Ta-da!
One of the most practical uses for this safety light is for people who exercise - especially at night!  “But where will I clip that little light?” you might ask.  We just happen to have a few ideas for you!  Joggers can clip it to the back of their running belt pack, or even the back of a running hat.  Walkers can clip it to their pony tails, or even to the back of their shoes.  This is a wonderfully small (but very safe) way to let drivers know that they need to watch out for you!

If health and safety is important to you, consider the possibilities in utilizing this imprinted promotional item for your client's next event.  Health and safety go hand-in-hand, no matter what level of exercise one decides to pursue.

Imagine the Possibilities
There are so many different events - marathons, ½ marathons, 5ks, jog-a-thon fundraisers for schools, bike safety events, health and wellness fairs, and even retail stores that specialize in sporting goods - that would benefit from knowing this little safety secret that is dying to get out!

Which Has The Better Business Position - You or Your Competition?

Positioning has changed the way the advertising game is being played today.  “We’re the third largest-selling coffee in America,” say the Sanka radio commercials.  The third largest?  Whatever happened to those good old advertising words like “first” and “best” and “finest”?  Well, the good old advertising days are gone forever and so are the words.  Today you find comparatives, not superlatives.
“Avis is only No. 2 in rent-a-cars, so why go with us?  We try harder.”
“Seven-Up:  the uncola.”
Along Madison Avenue, these are called positioning slogans.  And the advertising people who write them spend their time and research money looking for positions, or holes, in the marketplace.  But positioning has stirred up interest well beyond Madison Avenue.  With good reason.  Anyone can use positioning strategy to get ahead in the game of life.  And look at it this way:  If you don’t understand and use the principles, your competitors undoubtedly will.
Positioning is a marketing strategy book, written by well-respected authors Al Ries and Jack Trout.  The point of the book is to demonstrate that since our society is so inundated with hundreds of thousands of products on a daily basis, the point is not merely to make changes to our product so that it will beat the competition’s product.  The best strategy is to “position” your particular product so that it effectively remains in the mind of your prospective client/customer.
There may be 10 other companies on your block that are offering the same product or service as you are, so what is your unique niche that will cause consumers to stop and choose YOU above the rest?
The chapters deal with the specifics of Positioning, with the authors having done over 1,000 talks on the subject to more than 21 countries to those involved in marketing groups, including:
  1. What Positioning Is All About
  2. The Assault on the Mind
  3. Getting Into the Mind
  4. Those Little Ladders in Your Head
  5. You Can’t Get There from Here
  6. Positioning of a Leader
  7. Positioning of a Follower
  8. Repositioning the Competition
  9. The Power of the Name
  10. The No-Name Trap
  11. The Free-Ride Trap
  12. The Line-Extension Trap
  13. When Line Extension Can Work
  14. Positioning a Company: Xerox
  15. Positioning a Country: Belgium
  16. Positioning an Island: Jamaica
  17. Positioning a Product: Milk Duds
  18. Positioning a Service: Mailgram
  19. Positioning a Long Island Bank
  20. Positioning a New Jersey Bank
  21. Positioning a ski resort: Stowe
  22. Positioning the Catholic Church
  23. Positioning Yourself and Your Career
  24. Positioning Your Business
  25. Playing the Positioning Game
The business of marketing has changed in many ways over the years; especially in light of the technology we see today that wasn’t even in existence 10 years ago.  Whether you've been in the business for years or you are a beginner in the world of marketing, it is well worth your time to pick up this invaluable read.

Your position in your industry matters - what advice can you share about your own strategies of standing out among the competition that has brought significant results?

Marketing Warfare - What's Your Battle Strategy?

The concept behind Marketing Warfare, written by Al Ries and Jack Trout, is that marketing strategies in the modern world of business, can be compared to battle strategies and terms from history, not only in the literal sense of actual wars, but also in the marketing sense, as it has related to various product wars from the past.

Ries and Trout start from the basis that in order to successfully win the marketing war, entrepreneurs need to shift their efforts from being “customer-oriented” to “competitor-oriented.”

In the aftermath of World War II, the leading companies became customer-oriented.  The marketing expert was in charge and the prime minister was marketing research.  But today every company is customer-oriented.  Knowing what the customer wants isn’t too helpful if a dozen other companies are already serving the same customer’s wants.  American Motors’s problem is not the customer.  American Motors’s problem is General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, and the imports.  To become successful today, a company must become competitor-oriented.  It must look for weak points in the positions of its competitors and then launch marketing attacks against those weak points.

Ries and Trout go on to illustrate real marketing stories of success utilizing this tactic.  Although this book was published in 1986, it remains a favorite among business people specifically in the marketing business, but it’s principles can also be applied to marketing for any company.

The chapters briefly described below demonstrate how this book is not written like a business textbook; rather, it approaches the issues the way you, the business person, would expect them to be addressed: in a practical and intriguing way.

  • Marketing is war: Introduction to the concepts of warfare strategies and how that can be applied to marketing.
  • 2500 years of war: Introducing marketing people to some of the world’s most historic battles.
  • The principle of force: The principle of big fish eating little fish, big companies eating small companies.
  • The superiority of the defense: No military commander would seek to battle an opponent with the odds stacked against him, and how this applies to business marketing today.
  • The new era of competition: Learning the language and strategies from the military.
  • The nature of the battleground: Marketing battles aren’t fought on an actual battlefield, but in the minds of the prospect.
  • The strategic square: There are four ways to fight a war, and knowing which type of warfare to fight is the most important decision to be made.
  • Principles of defensive warfare: Defensive strategy is for a marketing leader, with 3 key principles to be followed.
  • Principles of offensive warfare: The primary principle in this approach is to find the weakness in the leader’s strength and then attack at that very point.
  • Principles of flanking warfare: The most successful marketing results have been a result of flanking moves.
  • Principles of guerilla warfare: How small companies can survive among the giant competitors.
  • The cola war: A closer look at the Pepsi vs. Coke strategies.
  • The beer war: The process of consolidation in the beer business, and how smaller breweries should be concentrating their forces together.
  • The burger war: Examining the marketing warfare between McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King.
  • The computer war: How big name computer companies can fail when trying to fight a battleground they don’t own.
  • Strategy and tactics: Strategy should follow tactics and start from the bottom up, not from the top down.
  • The marketing general: The key attributes for marketing generals include flexibility, mental courage, and boldness.

What is your marketing strategy?
Is it working?
Are you getting the results you want
Or
Are you in need of a better "battle" plan?

Your Blog Posts Are Probably Not Being Read Much

2013: The Year of the Perfect Blog Post

So many bloggers are not getting the viewing return for the hours spent laboring over what they believe are interesting or helpful blog posts.  Social media marketing is a major player in the business growth we desire and need.  Many of us have taken a great deal of time from our regular business responsibilities in order to read up on what is necessary to ensure success in the internet marketing arena.

One area that most of us are failing in is in the area of blogging.  You are probably presenting information that is valuable and helpful to a potential client or even fellow industry marketing business people.  But just like me, you are probably missing some very key elements, which is holding you back from getting the traffic you desire and deserve.

I’m passing this article along because it is written concisely, with good humor, and gives very practical (and pretty simple) changes to make in order to increase blog traffic.  Here are the main points - you will definitely want to take the time to explore them in depth.
  1. Blog Posts Should Be 1100 to 1400 Words 2 - 3 Times Per Week
  2. The Heading of the Page is as important as the Title
  3. Think of Your Opening Paragraph Like a Teaser for the Article
  4. Break Up the Content to Make the Page Inviting
  5. Structure Your Page for the Desired Result
  6. The Web Today Is All About Long Form Content and Visuals
  7. Promote Your Post Everywhere on Social Media
  8. Always End With Action Steps
  9. Read Your Blog Post Out Loud

Why Aren’t My Blogs Getting Much Traffic?

There are several areas that I know could greatly be improved as a result of making some, if not all, of the changes mentioned above.  One main improvement I’d like to make is to increase the word count.

Business life is busy.  Personal life is busy.  Sometimes it’s just easier to blog about the basics and hope that people discover my brief, yet ingenious, posts: whether they are related to promotional marketing products, business and personal growth books that have proven successful and beneficial to small business owners, or posts related to how we can make small changes to improve online visibility and exposure.  These are all very interesting topics to me, and they are beneficial to other salespeople in the industry.

How in the World Does Anyone Have Time to Blog?

Many bloggers have shared their secret:  writing several blog posts during one block of time during the week, and then scheduling those posts to be scattered throughout the following 7-10 days.  Spending 5 minutes here or there will not bring about the results of meaty blog posts, that will drive a slew of people to your site.  But spending a block of time on a Saturday morning or a Sunday afternoon, when your stress level is much lower and your mind is clearer, is an effective approach in posting consistently, information rich posts to your blog.

They Said WHAT?!

Another aspect of personal blogging that needs to improve is in the headlines.  Sometimes, after spending just enough time to blog about a topic that is interesting and relevant, there is little effort put into the title.  Often, when browsing through the various group posts on LinkedIn, many people are posting their blog post titles twice or they are not taking the time to write a heading or introductory sentence that is different from the blog’s post content.
This is redundant and a big deterrent from getting people to click on the link and read further.  One of the ways that bloggers can improve is to hang out around the news websites for a bit, to get a feel for the types of headlines that grab attention and get you to click on the article.   What is the goal of a news headline?  To present information in a way that is shocking and true at the same time, to get the reader to dive in and read the rest of the article.  But it has to be true - or your credibility is lost.

Say It Out LOUD!

One area that we can all use improvement is related to suggestion #9:  Read Your Blog Post Out Loud.  Have you actually tried this?  This simple exercise alone will reveal so much about redundancy, lack of enthusiasm, and wordiness that can kill a blog post.  Lock yourself up in a quiet place, where you can actually hear yourself think.  Don’t only read the information to get through it, but place yourself in the reader’s shoes.  Is there any section or statement that could be taken a different way than you intended?  Is there a point that you could have expanded more upon?  Did your post actually accomplish what you stated in your headline?
I’ll be evaluating and reevaluating my own blog posts in the days and weeks to come.  I’d be curious to know what noticeable results you are getting as a result of your intentional changes.
What three changes are you going to implement today into your blogging?

An Imprintable Bike Safety Light to Help Keep Your Kids In Sight

LED Safety Lights: A Cool Way To Keep Kids Safe

It’s happened to the best of parents.  You’re at a crowded theme park or event, and you are constantly keeping your eyes on your kids.  And you’ve seen the parents of multiple children, half listening to you while nodding their head, but really you know they are looking around and counting heads to make sure all have been accounted for.

The worst feeling in the world is when a parent, especially one who has diligently ensured the safety of their beloved son or daughter, turns around for one second only to find that they lost sight of their child.  There are so many different emotions running through their hearts and minds: fear, guilt, helplessness, to name just a few.  Panic immediately sets in, and you see these parents with wide eyes searching and calling for their child to come back, to know their parents are looking for them.  The “happiest place on earth” can quickly turn into “the worst experience of your life.”
These situations are not uncommon in the least.  It can happen at a crowded event or even at the grocery store.  Our little ones are driven by curiosity and excitement for that new adventure.  The question often becomes how to balance curiosity with necessary safety.  Every parent and grandparent knows that the last thing you ever want to do is kill the carefree spirit of a child.

So where does the balance lie?

At BikeNSafetyPromos, we’d like to offer a unique way to promote safety for children and an option that will leave parents, grandparents, and other caretakers a way to relax a bit in those stressful situations.

We offer imprintable LED Safety Lights in a variety of colors, which can easily be attached to a child’s backpack, baseball cap, belt loop, or even a ponytail.  We know that parents are constantly looking for ways to provide safety in a fun way.  Not only will the kids enjoy walking around with a blinking light attached to their clothing or backpack, but the parents and grandparents can sit back with ease, knowing exactly which child is theirs in the great big crowd around them.
Another amazing safety item that parents will love is the Blinking Silicone LED Wristband - what kid wouldn’t want to wear this cool accessory?  This is another example of encouraging parents, grandparents, and caretakers to utilize safety items that are not only exciting and fun to look at, but also serve a dual purpose in helping them keep their kids in view no matter what the location is.

Where can we find parents who will benefit from such wonderful products?

Parents and children are absolutely everywhere - so which places do they frequent the most? Children’s museums, health food stores, children’s hospitals, healthcare organizations, major retail chains such as Target and Wal-Mart, amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, sports stadiums, Boy and Girl Scouts stores, police stations, bookstores, and the list can go on forever!
Let’s partner together to spread the word to parents around the globe, letting them know about this must-have safety accessory!

{Book 6} Required Entrepreneur Reading: How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

What has been your most meaningful lesson in learning how to work well with difficult people?  Or what changes have you made in yourself to become a person that is easy to work with?

Written in 1936, this book has sold over 15 million copies around the globe.  What has drawn millions to read a book by someone who is not only from a completely different era, but quite a few generations distant from us?

Here’s a little snippet from the opening chapter, entitled “Nine Ways to Get The Most Out of This Book:"
“If you wish to get the most out of this book, there is one indispensable requirement, one essential infinitely more important than any other rule or technique.  Unless you have this one fundamental requisite, a thousand rules on how to study will avail little.  And if you do have this cardinal endowment, then you can achieve wonders without reading any suggestions for getting the most out of a book.  What is this magic requirement?  Just this:  a deep, driving desire to learn, a vigorous determination to increase your ability to deal with people.”(emphasis added)
What is the most foundational aspect of business?  Our ability to work with people in a mutually respectful manner, in a way that generates positive outcomes for all parties involved.  Dale Carnegie focuses on providing insightful strategies for you to connect and work with a variety of people and the challenges that often arise in such relationships.
The book is divided into the following major sections:
  1. Fundamental Techniques in Handling PeopleSix Ways to Make People Like You
  2. How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking
  3. Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment

The beauty of this book is that these principles are not only useful and applicable to our business relationships, but also can be utilized in personal relationships.

What has been your most meaningful experience or lesson learned in knowing how to approach challenging people in a positive way?
