Choose An Imprinted Promotional Item That's USEFUL!

While we all get a kick out of reading useless information just for a good laugh, we would never choose a useless promotional product!

But...since you could probably use a break in your day, to put a little smile on your face, read below for some interesting (but completely useless) information.

  1. Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
  2. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death.
  3. Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
  4. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear any pants.
  5. Most Americans honk in the key of F.
  6. Butterflies taste with their feet.
  7. If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months, and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
  8. You're born with 300 bones; by the time you become an adult, you only have 206.
  9. The average lead pencil will draw a line 35 miles long or write approximately 50,000 words.
  10. Over 75% of people who read this will try to lick their elbow.
(We won't tell anyone if you actually just tried to do #10.)

USEFUL PROMOTIONAL PRODUCTS THAT ALSO PROMOTE SAFETY

While some of these were actually interesting, there were a few that made you ask, "Really?"  Everywhere you go, useless information grabs your attention through television commercials, newspaper ads, city billboards, and google searches.

But remember, there's also a wealth of useful and purposeful information that all of us can utilize to better our lives.  At BikeNSafety Promos, we know that safety is the primary concern of every person alive - whether it's for yourself or someone you care about.

Have You Heard of This National Event?

May 8th, 2013 - National Bike To School Day
Have you heard of this national event, being promoted by schools and bicycle industry businesses all around the nation?  This is the day that kids from all over the United States get to ride their bikes to school together; a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, guiding our young bicycle riders to find the safe paths for them to take to school, in addition to demonstrating the most basic ways they can practice safety while on a bicycle.
While learning to ride a bike is one of the most memorable milestones of childhood, we often forget to properly instruct children on the ways they can be safe while enjoying their ride around town.

The League of American Bicyclists has a great list of
how-to tips for grown-ups when teaching the little people in their lives how to ride, especially this May, as we specifically pay attention to the preventative ways we can promote bike safety to children.

While some of these tips may seem obvious, they are still good reminders not to take any aspect of bicycle safety for granted, especially when it comes to helping our kids stay safe:

When
Once a child can hold their head up and fit a helment, they can be a passenger.
Until about age five, kids should ride in a child seat, or better yet, a trailer.
Kids need basic motor skills to operate a bike.

Traffic
Explain to kids how traffic works; they have only been passengers.
Teach them about yielding, passing, predicting and traffic law.
Bicycle riders have to obey the same rules as cars and buses.

Helmets
Let them pick out their helmet and they will want to wear it; wear yours also.
Make sure that the helmet fits the child properly; level on the head and snug.
Replace the helmet after a crash.

Training Wheels
Training wheels help the child develop a sense of balance.
Start with the training wheels solidly on the ground; they will hold the bike upright.
Gradually raise the training wheels; remove them when they start to get in the way.

Balance
Practice balancing in an open field or vacant parking lot.
Have the child practice riding in circles as well as in a straight line.
Show them how to use the brakes; get them to skid the rear wheel.

Starting and Stopping
Children should learn to stop before entering the roadway.
Look left, then right, then left again before proceeding.
Driveways, sidewalks and crosswalks are potential danger zones.

Riding Straight
Use a painted line in a parking lot.
Straight-line riding will allow drivers to predict what the child will do.
Predictability is important in any traffic situation; kids don't know this.

Scanning and Signaling
Have the child ride straight and look back at you without swerving.
Children must scan for traffic in front of them as well as behind before signaling.
Teach them how to signal right, left and stop and when to do it.

Neighborhood Ride
Plan a ride with your child around your neighborhood and discuss possible dangers.
Allow your child to lead.
Include them in the planning of the ride.

Transportation Choices
Bikes are vehicles; this is their introduction to driver's training.
Plan a route with your child to get them to a friend's house or school by bike.
At about 10, kids are ready for longer trips; make sure they make safe decisions.

At BikeNSafetyPromos, we take bicycle safety very seriously, but we make it fun for kids.  Check out our variety of promotional safety lights, bells, repair kits and much more!

16 Ways To Ensure Your Loved Ones' Safety

There is a group of people who have gone before us, paving the way in so many respects, by way of:
  1. Wisdom
  2. Courage
  3. Sacrifice
  4. Generosity
  5. Character
  6. Kindness
  7. Loyalty
  8. Example
Whether it was a parent, grandparent, favorite aunt or uncle, or long time friend, we have all been influenced by someone by an older generation, whose lives have touched and influenced ours in significant ways.  As you read these words, there is at least one person who comes to mind, someone who spent most of their life giving and serving those around them, and now, they face their own need to be cared for.

There are countless seniors and elderly people around us, and the great news is that the average life expectancy has increased, and many elderly have decided not to let age dictate the enjoyment of their lives.  They continue to keep themselves busy with grandchildren, travel, gardening, physical fitness, and so much more.

But as they grow older, we watch them face challenges of a different kind.  They are no longer concerned with going to work, running a business, or planning for retirement.  The challenges  they face are of a different nature:  protecting themselves from being a victim of financial fraud, regular screening of health issues, and personal physical safety.

Safety Tips For the Seniors and Elderly in Your Life

We found a great list of safety advice for those you know are at-risk for crime or accidental injuries.  It would be a great idea for you to post this somewhere in your loved one's home or to use as a checklist when helping to create safety for a loved one who is elderly.

BE ALERT WHEN OUT AND ABOUT
  • Go with friends or family, not alone.
  • Carry your purse close to your body, not dangling by the straps. Put a wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket.
  • Don't carry credit cards you don't need or large amounts of cash.
  • Use direct deposit for Social Security and other regular checks.
  • Whether you're a passenger or driver, keep car doors locked. Be particularly alert in parking lots and garages. Park near an entrance.
  • Sit close to the driver or near the exit while riding the bus, train, or subway.
  • If someone or something makes you uneasy, trust your instincts and leave.
MAKE YOUR HOME SAFE AND SECURE
  • Install good locks on doors and windows. Use them! Don't hide keys in mailboxes and planters or under doormats. Instead, leave an extra set of keys with a neighbor or friend.
  • Ask for photo identification from service or delivery people before letting them in. If you are the least bit worried, call the company to verify.
  • Be sure your street address number is large, clear of obstruction, and well-lighted so police and other emergency personnel can find your home quickly.
  • Consider a home alarm system that provides emergency monitoring for burglary, fire, and medical emergencies.
WATCH OUT FOR CON ARTISTS
  • Don't fall for anything that sounds too good to be true -- a free vacation, sweepstakes prizes, cures for cancer and arthritis, a low-risk, high-yield investment scheme.
  • Never give your credit card, phone card, Social Security, or bank account number to anyone over the phone. It's illegal for telemarketers to ask for these numbers to verify a prize or gift.
  • Don't let anyone rush you into signing anything -- an insurance policy, a sales agreement, a contract. Read it carefully and have someone you trust check it over.
  • Beware of individuals claiming to represent companies, consumer organizations, or government agencies that offer to recover lost money from fraudulent telemarketers for a fee.
  • If you're suspicious, check it out with the police, the Better Business Bureau, or your local consumer protection office. Call the National Consumers League Fraud Information Center at 800-876-7060.
At BikeNSafetyPromos, we are committed to providing safety in a small, yet effective way, for people in different types of situations.  We have two great products which help keep people safe, specifically those who tend to be vulnerable to crime.

Our BugEyez Safety Lights can be used as a guide to light the way when using a cane to walk at night, or even as a light to be clipped on to a wheelchair, to let people know you are coming through.  It can also be used inside of a purse, as a way to quickly find your keys when you need to get going.  You can also use the small, effective light to clip to your keys, so that you can find that keyhole without delay.

We also have an Electronic Panic Alarm that can be worn or carried, and will draw attention for help like nothing else.  It can be attached to your key chain, clipped on to your purse or belt loop, so that wherever you go, you will not be without help.

We would love to partner with you in reaching people of all ages to help provide safety through LED Safety Lights and Hand Held Alarms.

An Imprintable Bike Safety Light to Help Keep Your Kids In Sight

LED Safety Lights: A Cool Way To Keep Kids Safe

It’s happened to the best of parents.  You’re at a crowded theme park or event, and you are constantly keeping your eyes on your kids.  And you’ve seen the parents of multiple children, half listening to you while nodding their head, but really you know they are looking around and counting heads to make sure all have been accounted for.

The worst feeling in the world is when a parent, especially one who has diligently ensured the safety of their beloved son or daughter, turns around for one second only to find that they lost sight of their child.  There are so many different emotions running through their hearts and minds: fear, guilt, helplessness, to name just a few.  Panic immediately sets in, and you see these parents with wide eyes searching and calling for their child to come back, to know their parents are looking for them.  The “happiest place on earth” can quickly turn into “the worst experience of your life.”
These situations are not uncommon in the least.  It can happen at a crowded event or even at the grocery store.  Our little ones are driven by curiosity and excitement for that new adventure.  The question often becomes how to balance curiosity with necessary safety.  Every parent and grandparent knows that the last thing you ever want to do is kill the carefree spirit of a child.

So where does the balance lie?

At BikeNSafetyPromos, we’d like to offer a unique way to promote safety for children and an option that will leave parents, grandparents, and other caretakers a way to relax a bit in those stressful situations.

We offer imprintable LED Safety Lights in a variety of colors, which can easily be attached to a child’s backpack, baseball cap, belt loop, or even a ponytail.  We know that parents are constantly looking for ways to provide safety in a fun way.  Not only will the kids enjoy walking around with a blinking light attached to their clothing or backpack, but the parents and grandparents can sit back with ease, knowing exactly which child is theirs in the great big crowd around them.
Another amazing safety item that parents will love is the Blinking Silicone LED Wristband - what kid wouldn’t want to wear this cool accessory?  This is another example of encouraging parents, grandparents, and caretakers to utilize safety items that are not only exciting and fun to look at, but also serve a dual purpose in helping them keep their kids in view no matter what the location is.

Where can we find parents who will benefit from such wonderful products?

Parents and children are absolutely everywhere - so which places do they frequent the most? Children’s museums, health food stores, children’s hospitals, healthcare organizations, major retail chains such as Target and Wal-Mart, amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, sports stadiums, Boy and Girl Scouts stores, police stations, bookstores, and the list can go on forever!
Let’s partner together to spread the word to parents around the globe, letting them know about this must-have safety accessory!

Best Biking City in US Lacking High Quality Safety Lights

Bike Safety Lights Recognized As Necessity For Cycling Safety

There are several factors that cyclists consider as either helpful or detrimental to their cycling experience within a community.  While it seems that many cities are making more efforts to improve safety and road conditions specifically with cyclists in mind, this cycling blog based in Texas provides a list of categories that every cyclist should look for in a bike-friendly city, including:
  • Protected bike lanes on bridges
  • Free tune-up stations
  • Car-free hours in parks
  • Elevated bike paths
  • Striped bike lanes
  • Bike boxes at intersections
  • Bicycle commuter stations
  • Bike-share programs
  • Bike-themed festivals
  • Elementary school bicycle-trains
  • Cyclist-friendly cafés
  • Bicycle parking
  • Bike racks on buses
  • Closed-street cycling events
In 2012, Portland was named the “most bike-friendly city” in Americaand was given “platinum” status by the League of American Bicyclists.  This popular city is well-known not only for its outstanding support of cyclists, but also for consistently looking for ways to make improvements to enhance the cycling experience.
Even though Portland may have proven itself to be bicycle-friendly, it failed to rank high enough in the safety realm with regard to the use of bicycle safety lights.  To test this point, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance put together a “Bicycle Lights Use Survey” with volunteers at 33 different spots around Portland, with the sole purpose of counting the number of cyclists who were utilizing safety lights.

The results of the survey showed that while 9 in 10 cyclists had front lights, only 1 in 9 were sufficient for safety.   The BTA is working to bring a greater awareness of the need to use bike lights that are safe and efficient.  They are even asking cyclists to carry extra lights to pass along to friends and family who never use any kind of safety light.
The problem lies with a lack of safety information being provided to thousands of cyclists.  There are countless organizations you can partner with in order to create a more bike-friendly environment through enhanced safety precautions.  Health care organizations, children’s museums, school clubs, police departments, universities, and bicycle coalition groups are just a few.
BikeNSafetyPromos provides only the highest quality of bike safety promotional items.  Let us know how we can partner with you in this venture!

LED Safety Lights Praised For Ease, Safety, and Cost Effectiveness

Bike Safety Lights - Not Just For Night Riding

It is often assumed that bike lights are only needed for evening rides.  The San Francisco Chronicle recently published an article entitled, “Lights and reflectors are key to safety.”  Writer Renee Rivera explains that Bay area cyclists frequently use lights not only for night riding, but also during low visibility weather conditions, such as rain or fog.  These conditions are not unique to San Francisco.

Cyclists are only increasing their level of safety by always being prepared with lights at all times.  Rivera praises the ease and cost effectiveness of using bike safety lights.

Over the past few years, bike lights have become increasingly brighter, lighter and less expensive so even if you already have an older light an upgrade might be a good idea. Lights that are either rechargeable by USB or use AA or AAA batteries are a great idea for city riding because they are usually simple to remove and take with you when you lock up your bike, thus avoiding theft. With a USB light, you will never have to worry about buying batteries, and with a replaceable battery light, you can at least run to the store for extras if you run out of juice. It is also a good idea to carry an extra light set so you can still get home safely if one beacon goes out.
However, cycling is not the only activity affected by weather conditions. There are numerous professions which require employees to work outside in both rainy and foggy conditions, such as construction workers and mail carriers.

And let's not forget all the faithful pet owners whose pets need that daily walk! Not only that, but there are many athletes who still get their daily run in regardless of the weather. What do these people from all walks of life have in common? The need to be seen. Their safety is dependent upon whether or not they are visible in such conditions that often cause poor visibility.

BikeNSafetyPromos provides a vast array of high quality LED bike tail lights, mini-lights, head lights, and so much more.
